As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Germany was the major exporter of diodes, other than photosensitive or light emitting diodes in Europe, with the volume of exports reaching X units, which was near 37% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by the UK (X units), Italy (X units), Belgium (X units), the Netherlands (X units) and France (X units), together comprising a 46% share of total exports. Hungary (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Germany increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Belgium (+10.8%), Hungary (+8.2%), Italy (+7.6%), the Netherlands (+2.2%) and France (+2.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belgium emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +10.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the UK (-9.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Germany, Belgium and Italy increased by +11, +4.7 and +4 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest diode supplier in Europe, comprising 48% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Netherlands ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by France, with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Germany amounted to +8.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Netherlands (+14.9% per year) and France (+0.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per unit, increasing by 14% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 33% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per unit), while Belgium ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 22%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Romania (X units), Belgium (X units), the Czech Republic (X units), Austria (X units), Spain (X units) and Slovakia (X units) took a relatively small share of total imports.
