The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 27% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, toy exports rose significantly to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
The shipments of the three major exporters of dolls and toys, namely the Czech Republic, Germany and the Netherlands, represented more than third of total export. Poland (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with an 8.4% share, followed by Belgium (7.3%), Spain (5.4%), Greece (5.4%), Italy (5.2%), France (5%) and Hungary (5%).
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +16.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X), Germany ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 51% of total exports. These countries were followed by Poland, Belgium, France, Spain, Hungary, Italy and Greece, which together accounted for a further 33%.
Among the main exporting countries, Poland, with a CAGR of +24.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, remaining constant against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the export price increased by 22%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Greece ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+6.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Toy Imports
Imports in Europe
In 2021, the amount of dolls and toys imported in Europe expanded sharply to X tons, with an increase of 12% on 2020. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 17% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, toy imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
The countries with the highest levels of toy imports in 2021 were Germany (X tons), the UK (X tons), France (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Russia (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Poland (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Spain (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Romania (X tons), together resulting at 80% of total import. Hungary (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Romania (with a CAGR of +14.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X), the UK ($X) and France ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 39% share of total imports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, Poland, Russia, the Czech Republic, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Hungary and Romania, which together accounted for a further 43%.
Poland, with a CAGR of +14.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 6.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 7%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Romania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
