In 2022, shipments abroad of powdered milk decreased by -7.3% to X tons, falling for the third year in a row after three years of growth. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, powdered milk exports expanded markedly to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +69.3% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 21%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The shipments of the seven major exporters of powdered milk, namely Germany, France, the Netherlands, Ireland, Belgium, Belarus and Poland, represented more than two-thirds of total export. Sweden (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 23% against the previous year. Export price indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, powdered milk export price increased by +48.7% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the export price increased by 26%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in the Netherlands ($X per ton) and Poland ($X per ton), while Belgium ($X per ton) and Belarus ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+3.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe

In 2022, the amount of powdered milk imported in Europe expanded remarkably to X tons, growing by 6% compared with the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 7.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, powdered milk imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +72.2% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 29%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 19% against the previous year. Import price indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, powdered milk import price increased by +62.2% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 25%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
