The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +73.7% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 51% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

The biggest shipments were from France (X tons), Moldova (X tons) and Spain (X tons), together accounting for 59% of total export. Serbia (X tons) took a 9.8% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by the Netherlands (7.5%) and Bulgaria (6%). Germany (X tons) took a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Moldova (with a CAGR of +27.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, France ($X) remains the largest dried prune supplier in Europe, comprising 25% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Moldova ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Serbia, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in France totaled +4.1%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Moldova (+33.9% per year) and Serbia (+13.5% per year).

The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, jumping by 36% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.4%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Serbia (+10.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +72.6% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, Russia (X tons), followed by the UK (X tons), Germany (X tons), Poland (X tons), Italy (X tons), Spain (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) represented the key importers of dried prunes, together mixing up 70% of total imports. The following importers - France (X tons), Lithuania (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Greece (X tons), Ukraine (X tons) and Denmark (X tons) - together made up 14% of total imports.

In value terms, the UK ($X), Germany ($X) and Italy ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 36% share of total imports. Poland, Spain, the Netherlands, Russia, France, Lithuania, Greece, Belgium, Denmark and Ukraine lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 46%.

Among the main importing countries, France, with a CAGR of +14.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 28% against the previous year. Import price indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, dried prune import price increased by +65.7% against 2019 indices. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per ton), while Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
