Dry-Cleaning Machine Market Size in Europe

In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in the Europe dry-cleaning machine market, when its value increased by 8.3% to $X. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a pronounced downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 9.2% against the previous year. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, dry-cleaning machine production shrank slightly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production continues to indicate a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the production volume increased by 32%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Europe

In 2021, shipments abroad of dry-cleaning machines increased by 16% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 119%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, dry-cleaning machine exports fell to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 6.9%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Germany was the main exporting country with an export of about X units, which accounted for 71% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Italy (X units), making up a 17% share of total exports. Austria (X units) and Portugal (X units) took a little share of total exports.

Germany was also the fastest-growing in terms of the dry-cleaning machines exports, with a CAGR of +18.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Austria (+12.1%) and Portugal (+8.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Italy (-19.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Germany (+61 p.p.) and Austria (+3.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Italy saw its share reduced by -63.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Italy ($X) remains the largest dry-cleaning machine supplier in Europe, comprising 71% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Portugal, with a 2.1% share.

In Italy, dry-cleaning machine exports plunged by an average annual rate of -10.2% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (-7.4% per year) and Portugal (+5.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, which is down by -21.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 68% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per unit), while Germany ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+11.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Europe

In 2021, overseas purchases of dry-cleaning machines were finally on the rise to reach X units after three years of decline. In general, imports saw a remarkable increase. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, dry-cleaning machine imports reduced to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 42% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Denmark prevails in imports structure, recording X units, which was near 82% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Switzerland (X units), generating a 4.6% share of total imports. The following importers - France (X units), Ireland (X units), the UK (X units) and Russia (X units) - each reached a 7.2% share of total imports.

Denmark was also the fastest-growing in terms of the dry-cleaning machines imports, with a CAGR of +132.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Ireland (+64.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Switzerland (-1.1%), France (-3.2%), the UK (-4.7%) and Russia (-10.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Denmark (+81 p.p.) and Ireland (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of the UK (-3.1 p.p.), France (-3.4 p.p.), Switzerland (-5.1 p.p.) and Russia (-6.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, the largest dry-cleaning machine importing markets in Europe were France ($X), the UK ($X) and Russia ($X), with a combined 39% share of total imports. Switzerland, Denmark and Ireland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 6.5%.

Ireland, with a CAGR of +26.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, which is down by -77.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 76%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per unit), while Denmark ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
