The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 9.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, egg product exports rose sharply to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
The Netherlands was the key exporting country with an export of around X tons, which resulted at 36% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Poland (X tons), Spain (X tons), France (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Italy (X tons), together committing a 47% share of total exports. The UK (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.
The Netherlands experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of egg products. At the same time, Poland (+9.7%), Spain (+9.1%), the UK (+6.5%), Italy (+4.1%), France (+1.7%) and Belgium (+1.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +9.7% from 2012-2021. Germany experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Poland and Spain increased by +5.8 and +4.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the largest egg product supplier in Europe, comprising 36% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by France, with a 9.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the Netherlands amounted to -1.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Poland (+8.6% per year) and France (+0.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 2.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a slight slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 6.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the UK ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (-0.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Egg Product Imports
Imports in Europe
Egg product imports rose remarkably to X tons in 2021, growing by 5.3% compared with 2020. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
In value terms, egg product imports rose significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 19%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Germany (X tons), distantly followed by Belgium (X tons), the UK (X tons), France (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Spain (X tons) were the main importers of egg products, together mixing up 74% of total imports. Denmark (X tons), Sweden (X tons), Poland (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Portugal (X tons) and Switzerland (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Italy (with a CAGR of +11.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest egg product importing markets in Europe were Germany ($X), the UK ($X) and France ($X), with a combined 43% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Belgium, Italy, Spain, Denmark, the Netherlands, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Poland, Switzerland and Portugal, which together accounted for a further 44%.
Among the main importing countries, Italy, with a CAGR of +6.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 3.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+3.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
