Calculator Market Size in Europe

In 2021, the Europe calculator market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2015, thus ending a five-year declining trend. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a perceptible curtailment. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, calculator production dropped significantly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production enjoyed significant growth. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2020, and then declined rapidly in the following year.

In 2021, the amount of electronic calculators and pocket-size data recording, reproducing and displaying machines with calculating functions exported in Europe rose remarkably to X units, increasing by 12% compared with the year before. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a mild setback. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, calculator exports rose to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 12% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

The Netherlands was the key exporting country with an export of about X units, which amounted to 49% of total exports. Germany (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 21% share, followed by Poland (4.8%) and the Czech Republic (4.7%). Spain (X units), Belarus (X units), France (X units), Hungary (X units) and Austria (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from the Netherlands increased at an average annual rate of +16.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Belarus (+20.5%), Poland (+17.0%), Hungary (+15.9%) and Austria (+4.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +20.5% from 2012-2021. Spain and France experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Germany (-11.5%) and the Czech Republic (-11.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the Netherlands, Poland and Belarus increased by +38, +3.8 and +2.2 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Germany ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together accounting for 70% of total exports. Poland, France, Spain, Austria, Hungary and Belarus lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 12%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Poland, with a CAGR of +26.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -7.1% against the previous year. Export price indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 29% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+12.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Calculator Imports

Imports in Europe

After five years of decline, purchases abroad of electronic calculators and pocket-size data recording, reproducing and displaying machines with calculating functions increased by 10% to X units in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a noticeable curtailment. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, calculator imports rose notably to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a slight decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 9.9%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the five major importers of electronic calculators and pocket-size data recording, reproducing and displaying machines with calculating functions, namely Germany, the Netherlands, the UK, France and Russia, represented more than half of total import. Poland (X units) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Hungary (X units). All these countries together held near 10% share of total imports. The following importers - the Czech Republic (X units), Spain (X units), Italy (X units), Ukraine (X units), Belgium (X units) and Belarus (X units) - together made up 17% of total imports.

In 2021, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per unit, reducing by -4% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 14%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2020, and then reduced modestly in the following year.
