In 2021, the Europe meat and fish extracts market increased by 15% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after six years of decline. Overall, consumption, however, showed a abrupt decrease. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, meat and fish extracts production declined to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, recorded a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the production volume increased by 4.7%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Europe

In 2021, shipments abroad of extracts and juices of meat, fish, crustaceans and molluscs decreased by -0.6% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 53% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2020, and then dropped modestly in the following year.

In value terms, meat and fish extracts exports dropped to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +104.7% against 2012 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 33%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.

Exports by Country

Italy was the key exporting country with an export of around X tons, which reached 57% of total exports. It was distantly followed by France (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and Spain (X tons), together committing a 31% share of total exports. The following exporters - Denmark (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Poland (X tons) - together made up 8.5% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to meat and fish extracts exports from Italy stood at +14.1%. At the same time, Poland (+55.8%), Denmark (+30.6%), Spain (+28.8%), France (+12.9%) and Belgium (+11.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +55.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the Netherlands (-3.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Italy (+7.8 p.p.), Spain (+5.2 p.p.), Denmark (+3.2 p.p.) and Poland (+1.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the Netherlands saw its share reduced by -7.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest meat and fish extracts supplying countries in Europe were Italy ($X), France ($X) and Belgium ($X), together comprising 63% of total exports. Spain, Denmark, the Netherlands and Poland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 28%.

Poland, with a CAGR of +53.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, falling by -5.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 7.7%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+9.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports of Extracts And Juices Of Meat, Fish, Crustaceans And Molluscs

Imports in Europe

In 2021, approx. X tons of extracts and juices of meat, fish, crustaceans and molluscs were imported in Europe; with a decrease of -17.7% against the year before. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a pronounced curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 5.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, meat and fish extracts imports reduced remarkably to $X in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a perceptible decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 8.2%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Hungary (X tons) and France (X tons) represented the main importers of extracts and juices of meat, fish, crustaceans and molluscs in Europe, together reaching approx. 41% of total imports. The UK (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 12% share, followed by Belgium (8.9%), Italy (6.4%), the Czech Republic (6.1%) and Germany (5.6%). The following importers - the Netherlands (X tons), Sweden (X tons), Portugal (X tons) and Spain (X tons) - together made up 12% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by the Czech Republic (with a CAGR of +12.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest meat and fish extracts importing markets in Europe were Belgium ($X), Germany ($X) and the UK ($X), with a combined 44% share of total imports. These countries were followed by France, the Netherlands, Sweden, Hungary, Spain, Italy, the Czech Republic and Portugal, which together accounted for a further 42%.

Among the main importing countries, Sweden, with a CAGR of +8.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -13.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a slight decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 8.3%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
