In 2021, shipments abroad of filing cabinets, card-index cabinets or desk equipment of base metal was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Overall, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 18%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, metal filing cabinet exports surged to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 35% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Poland (X tons) was the main exporter of filing cabinets, card-index cabinets or desk equipment of base metal, comprising 36% of total exports. Germany (X tons) took a 9.8% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by France (7.5%), Sweden (7.4%), Denmark (6.3%), the UK (5.9%) and the Netherlands (5.3%). The following exporters - Spain (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Italy (X tons), Slovakia (X tons) and Russia (X tons) - together made up 15% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to metal filing cabinet exports from Poland stood at +5.7%. At the same time, Denmark (+20.3%), Slovakia (+12.9%), Russia (+5.4%), Belgium (+3.6%), Sweden (+2.5%) and Italy (+2.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Denmark emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +20.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the Netherlands (-1.8%), France (-2.9%), Germany (-7.1%), the UK (-8.3%) and Spain (-12.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Poland (+15 p.p.), Denmark (+5.2 p.p.), Slovakia (+1.8 p.p.) and Sweden (+1.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of France (-2 p.p.), the UK (-6.4 p.p.), Spain (-8 p.p.) and Germany (-8.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest metal filing cabinet supplier in Europe, comprising 27% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Denmark, with a 9.5% share.

In Poland, metal filing cabinet exports increased at an average annual rate of +14.8% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (-5.2% per year) and Denmark (+19.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 22% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 29%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+21.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe

In 2021, supplies from abroad of filing cabinets, card-index cabinets or desk equipment of base metal increased by 6.7% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 15%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, metal filing cabinet imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -1.6% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 43%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the four major importers of filing cabinets, card-index cabinets or desk equipment of base metal, namely the UK, Germany, France and Spain, represented more than third of total import. Poland (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 6.1% share, followed by Sweden (6%), the Netherlands (5.8%), Belgium (5.5%) and Russia (5.2%). Italy (X tons), Switzerland (X tons), Greece (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Greece (with a CAGR of +11.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest metal filing cabinet importing markets in Europe were the UK ($X), Spain ($X) and France ($X), together comprising 35% of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Spain, with a CAGR of +18.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Import price indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, metal filing cabinet import price increased by +56.3% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 31%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then fell slightly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+13.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
