The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 21%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
In value terms, flaked or rolled cereal exports stood at $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +67.1% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 17%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In 2022, Germany (X tons), followed by Belgium (X tons), Russia (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), the UK (X tons), Denmark (X tons) and Estonia (X tons) represented the largest exporters of flaked or rolled cereals, together comprising 63% of total exports. Poland (X tons), Latvia (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Italy (X tons), Ireland (X tons) and Lithuania (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Latvia (with a CAGR of +24.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X), the UK ($X) and Russia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together accounting for 41% of total exports. Belgium, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, the Netherlands, Italy, the Czech Republic, Ireland, Denmark and Estonia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 43%.
Latvia, with a CAGR of +23.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, surging by 2.4% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the export price increased by 11% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the Czech Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+8.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Flaked or Rolled Cereals
Imports in Europe
After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of flaked or rolled cereals increased by 5.4% to X tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 14%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2019; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
In value terms, flaked or rolled cereal imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +65.9% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 18%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2022, the Netherlands (X tons), distantly followed by Germany (X tons), Ireland (X tons), France (X tons), Poland (X tons), Italy (X tons) and the UK (X tons) represented the largest importers of flaked or rolled cereals, together comprising 65% of total imports. Spain (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Austria (X tons), Latvia (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
The Netherlands experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of flaked or rolled cereals. At the same time, Ireland (+25.7%), Spain (+13.9%), Latvia (+12.1%), Italy (+9.7%), Poland (+7.1%), Belgium (+7.0%), France (+3.9%) and Germany (+3.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Ireland emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Europe, with a CAGR of +25.7% from 2012-2022. Austria experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Belarus (-3.5%), the UK (-4.0%) and the Czech Republic (-4.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Ireland, Italy, Spain and Poland increased by +6.8, +2.3, +2.1 and +1.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest flaked or rolled cereal importing markets in Europe were the Netherlands ($X), Germany ($X) and France ($X), together comprising 40% of total imports. Poland, Italy, Ireland, the UK, Spain, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Austria, Belarus and Latvia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 35%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Ireland, with a CAGR of +18.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, growing by 8.2% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.4%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 12%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Ireland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
