Slovenia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Russia ($X) and France ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 55% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Austria, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia, which together accounted for a further 29%.

Among the main exporting countries, Austria, with a CAGR of +20.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 41% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while Slovenia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, silicon-electrical steel flat-rolled product imports surged to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Italy was the largest importing country with an import of about X tons, which reached 34% of total imports. France (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 8.7% share, followed by the Czech Republic (8.5%), Germany (8.1%), Poland (7.1%) and Romania (5.7%). Switzerland (X tons), Hungary (X tons), Spain (X tons), Slovenia (X tons), Austria (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Moreover, Slovenia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Europe, with a CAGR of +20.4% from 2012-2021. Austria, Switzerland and Hungary experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Belarus (-1.2%) and France (-3.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Italy (+7.5 p.p.), Slovenia (+2.4 p.p.), the Czech Republic (+2.2 p.p.) and Poland (+2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while France saw its share reduced by -3.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with an 8.7% share of total imports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 7.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Italy totaled +5.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Germany (+0.8% per year) and the Czech Republic (+5.3% per year).
