After two years of decline, the Europe acyclic hydrocarbons derivatives market increased by 5.7% to $X in 2021. In general, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, acyclic hydrocarbons derivatives production rose slightly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the production volume increased by 24% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Europe
In 2021, shipments abroad of fluorinated, brominated or iodinated derivatives of acyclic hydrocarbons decreased by -0.9% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year rising trend. In general, exports continue to indicate a noticeable decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 19% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, acyclic hydrocarbons derivatives exports expanded markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a tangible increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 33% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2021, the Netherlands (X tons) represented the main exporter of fluorinated, brominated or iodinated derivatives of acyclic hydrocarbons, achieving 43% of total exports. It was distantly followed by the UK (X tons), Belgium (X tons), France (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Italy (X tons), together comprising a 47% share of total exports. Poland (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to acyclic hydrocarbons derivatives exports from the Netherlands stood at +3.5%. At the same time, Poland (+62.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +62.7% from 2012-2021. Italy experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Belgium (-2.2%), the UK (-3.8%), Germany (-7.3%) and France (-11.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the Netherlands (+17 p.p.) and Poland (+3.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of the UK (-2 p.p.), Germany (-4.3 p.p.) and France (-14.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the largest acyclic hydrocarbons derivatives supplier in Europe, comprising 51% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 9% share of total exports. It was followed by the UK, with an 8.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in the Netherlands amounted to +13.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Germany (+1.7% per year) and the UK (-3.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 9.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price posted a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 31% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the UK ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+9.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Acyclic Hydrocarbons Derivatives Imports
Imports in Europe
In 2021, supplies from abroad of fluorinated, brominated or iodinated derivatives of acyclic hydrocarbons was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a pronounced reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 13%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, acyclic hydrocarbons derivatives imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 47%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, the Netherlands (X tons) represented the major importer of fluorinated, brominated or iodinated derivatives of acyclic hydrocarbons, comprising 32% of total imports. It was distantly followed by the UK (X tons), Germany (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Italy (X tons), France (X tons) and Russia (X tons), together committing a 52% share of total imports.
The Netherlands was also the fastest-growing in terms of the fluorinated, brominated or iodinated derivatives of acyclic hydrocarbons imports, with a CAGR of +2.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Russia (+1.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Belgium (-2.1%), Germany (-2.7%), France (-3.2%), the UK (-4.5%) and Italy (-6.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the Netherlands and Russia increased by +11 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported fluorinated, brominated or iodinated derivatives of acyclic hydrocarbons in Europe, comprising 38% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by France, with an 8.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the Netherlands totaled +10.6%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+2.9% per year) and France (+2.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 16% against the previous year. Import price indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 31%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
