Fluorspar Market Size in Europe

In 2021, the Europe fluorspar market decreased by -3.6% to $X, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, consumption saw a noticeable shrinkage. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Fluorspar Production in Europe

In value terms, fluorspar production amounted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the production volume increased by 72% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Europe

In 2021, fluorspar exports in Europe reached X tons, stabilizing at the previous year. Total exports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +105.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 103% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, fluorspar exports reduced slightly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a modest increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 101%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then declined slightly in the following year.

Exports by Country

In 2021, the Netherlands (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the largest exporters of fluorspar in Europe, together committing 68% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Germany (X tons), mixing up a 15% share of total exports. The following exporters - the UK (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Spain (X tons) - together made up 13% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by the UK (with a CAGR of +69.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the largest fluorspar supplier in Europe, comprising 46% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by Italy, with a 9.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the Netherlands stood at +21.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Germany (+1.6% per year) and Italy (+15.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -2.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a slight shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 51%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+1.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Fluorspar Imports

Imports in Europe

In 2021, purchases abroad of fluorspar increased by 3.8% to X tons, rising for the fourth year in a row after three years of decline. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 5.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, fluorspar imports totaled $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 38%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the three major importers of fluorspar, namely Italy, Russia and Germany, represented more than half of total import. It was distantly followed by the Netherlands (X tons), creating a 10% share of total imports. The following importers - Norway (X tons), Albania (X tons), Ukraine (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Finland (X tons) - together made up 14% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Albania (with a CAGR of +71.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

In value terms, the largest fluorspar importing markets in Europe were Italy ($X), Germany ($X) and Russia ($X), together accounting for 62% of total imports. The Netherlands, Norway, Ukraine, Belgium, Finland, Spain and Albania lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 26%.

Among the main importing countries, Albania, with a CAGR of +44.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 30% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while Albania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
