Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 6.5% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, leather footwear exports stood at $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 11%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, Italy (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and Germany (X tons) represented the largest exporter of leather footwear in Europe, comprising 44% of total export. It was followed by Portugal (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Spain (X tons), Poland (X tons) and France (X tons), together generating a 34% share of total exports. The following exporters - Albania (X tons), Slovakia (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Romania (X tons) and the UK (X tons) - together made up 11% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +12.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest leather footwear supplying countries in Europe were Italy ($X), Germany ($X) and Belgium ($X), with a combined 51% share of total exports. These countries were followed by France, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Poland, the UK, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Romania and Albania, which together accounted for a further 39%.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Poland, with a CAGR of +15.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per kg, with an increase of 4% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the export price increased by 6.9%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per kg), while Albania ($X per kg) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+2.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, approx. X tons of leather footwear were imported in Europe; flattening at the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, showed a slight shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 3.3%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

The purchases of the nine major importers of leather footwear, namely Germany, Belgium, France, the UK, Italy, the Netherlands, Russia, Poland and Spain, represented more than two-thirds of total import.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Poland (with a CAGR of +13.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X), France ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 41% of total imports. Italy, Belgium, the UK, Russia, Poland and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 38%.
Poland, with a CAGR of +13.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Europe stood at $X per kg in 2021, picking up by 5.7% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per kg), while Belgium ($X per kg) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+4.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
