The Europe frozen fish meat market rose slightly to $X in 2021, picking up by 2.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 18%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2020, and then dropped modestly in the following year.

Exports in Europe
In 2021, shipments abroad of frozen fish meat increased by 8.3% to X tons, rising for the sixth year in a row after three years of decline. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 15% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
In value terms, frozen fish meat exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Norway represented the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which finished at 37% of total exports. The Netherlands (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Faroe Islands (X tons), Russia (X tons), Denmark (X tons), Sweden (X tons) and Spain (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 44% share of total exports. The UK (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to frozen fish meat exports from Norway stood at -1.8%. At the same time, the Netherlands (+26.3%), Sweden (+16.4%), Russia (+10.7%), Faroe Islands (+10.5%), the UK (+5.2%), Denmark (+4.3%) and Spain (+1.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Netherlands emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +26.3% from 2012-2021. While the share of the Netherlands (+9.7 p.p.), Faroe Islands (+4.6 p.p.), Russia (+4.1 p.p.) and Sweden (+3.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Norway (-18.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Norway ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Spain ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together accounting for 52% of total exports.
Among the main exporting countries, the Netherlands, with a CAGR of +17.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a perceptible decrease. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while the UK ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+0.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Frozen Fish Meat Imports
Imports in Europe
In 2021, imports of frozen fish meat in Europe stood at X tons, approximately equating the previous year. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 10%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, frozen fish meat imports expanded significantly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
The purchases of the ten major importers of frozen fish meat, namely France, Poland, Russia, Spain, Germany, Lithuania, Ukraine, Belarus, the Netherlands and Sweden, represented more than two-thirds of total import.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Belarus (with a CAGR of +14.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, France ($X), Spain ($X) and Poland ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 38% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Russia, Germany, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Ukraine, Belarus and Sweden, which together accounted for a further 41%.
Belarus, with a CAGR of +13.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 8.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while Sweden ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
