The countries with the highest volumes of production in 2022 were Spain (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Russia (X tons), together comprising 57% of total production. Italy, the Netherlands, the UK and Denmark lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 29%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of production, amongst the main producing countries, was attained by Italy (with a CAGR of +43.1%), while production for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports in Europe
In 2022, overseas shipments of frozen hams, shoulders and cuts of pig meat decreased by -35.8% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 50% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, frozen pork cut exports declined rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 91%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Spain was the main exporting country with an export of around X tons, which finished at 39% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Denmark (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Ireland (X tons), together making up a 46% share of total exports. The following exporters - France (X tons) and the UK (X tons) - together made up 4.9% of total exports.
Exports from Spain increased at an average annual rate of +9.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Denmark (+18.9%), the Netherlands (+14.2%), the UK (+11.7%) and Ireland (+9.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Denmark emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +18.9% from 2012-2022. France experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Germany (-4.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Denmark (+9.7 p.p.), Spain (+9.2 p.p.), the Netherlands (+6.4 p.p.) and Ireland (+1.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of France (-2.2 p.p.) and Germany (-19.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Spain ($X) remains the largest frozen pork cut supplier in Europe, comprising 43% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Denmark ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 14% share.
In Spain, frozen pork cut exports increased at an average annual rate of +8.8% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Denmark (+19.5% per year) and the Netherlands (+13.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 28% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Overall, imports, however, showed a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 12%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, frozen pork cut imports rose to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 15% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
The countries with the highest levels of frozen pork cut imports in 2022 were Romania (X tons), Italy (X tons), Poland (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Portugal (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons), Spain (X tons), France (X tons), Ukraine (X tons), Slovakia (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and Albania (X tons), together amounting to 81% of total import.

Poland, Portugal, Bulgaria, France, Spain, Ukraine, Belgium, Slovakia and Albania lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 47%.
Albania, with a CAGR of +31.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, standing approx. at the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
