Total exports indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -17.8% against 2020 indices. In 2022, approx. X tons of frozen pig meat other than cuts or carcases were imported in Europe; jumping by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced descent. Over the period under review, imports of attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, Romania ($X), Poland ($X) and the UK ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 26% share of total imports. France, the Netherlands, Italy, Bulgaria, Germany, Spain, Serbia, the Czech Republic, Croatia and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 46%.

Serbia, with a CAGR of +14.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, surging by 4% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a pronounced descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 14%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
