Fructose Market Size in Europe

The Europe fructose market shrank sharply to $X in 2021, declining by -16.3% against the previous year. Overall, consumption saw a perceptible downturn. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, fructose exports surged to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +80.1% against 2015 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, France (X tons), distantly followed by the Netherlands (X tons), Hungary (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Bulgaria (X tons) represented the largest exporters of fructose and fructose syrup, together mixing up 83% of total exports. Slovakia (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by France (with a CAGR of +16.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest fructose supplying countries in Europe were France ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Belgium ($X), together comprising 58% of total exports.

The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -7.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a slight reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 11%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovakia (-0.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2021, purchases abroad of fructose and fructose syrup increased by 10% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. Imports by Country

In 2021, Germany (X tons), followed by the Netherlands (X tons), France (X tons), Belgium (X tons), the UK (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the major importers of fructose and fructose syrup, together constituting 60% of total imports. The following importers - Poland (X tons), Romania (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Ireland (X tons), Serbia (X tons) and Switzerland (X tons) - together made up 24% of total imports.

The Czech Republic, with a CAGR of +7.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 4.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 7.8% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while Serbia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
