Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while Sweden ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 147% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, gear cutting machine imports shrank dramatically to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 49% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Italy prevails in imports structure, amounting to X units, which was approx. 52% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X units) and Austria (X units), together mixing up an 18% share of total imports. Ireland (X units), Russia (X units), Poland (X units), Sweden (X units), France (X units), the Netherlands (X units), Greece (X units) and Slovakia (X units) took a relatively small share of total imports.

Imports into Italy increased at an average annual rate of +43.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Slovakia (+69.6%), Ireland (+37.5%), Sweden (+33.5%), Greece (+23.0%), the Netherlands (+19.0%) and France (+15.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Slovakia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Europe, with a CAGR of +69.6% from 2012-2021. Austria experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Poland (-5.1%), Belarus (-9.1%) and Russia (-9.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Italy (+52 p.p.), Austria (+7.3 p.p.), Belarus (+6 p.p.), Ireland (+4.3 p.p.), Sweden (+2.9 p.p.), France (+2.7 p.p.), the Netherlands (+2.5 p.p.), Russia (+2.5 p.p.), Greece (+2.5 p.p.), Poland (+2.4 p.p.) and Slovakia (+1.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Italy ($X), Russia ($X) and Sweden ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 38% share of total imports. Austria, France, Belarus, Slovakia, Poland, the Netherlands, Greece and Ireland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 18%.

Among the main importing countries, Slovakia, with a CAGR of +48.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, with a decrease of -19.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the import price increased by 204% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per unit), while Ireland ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
