The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 13%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, Germany (X tons), distantly followed by Poland (X tons), Spain (X tons), Russia (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) represented the key exporters of gingerbread, together creating 71% of total exports. The following exporters - Ukraine (X tons), the UK (X tons), Italy (X tons), Lithuania (X tons), France (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Latvia (X tons) - together made up 19% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Russia (with a CAGR of +25.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest gingerbread supplier in Europe, comprising 35% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by the UK, with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Germany totaled +5.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Poland (+10.8% per year) and the UK (+1.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 5.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

For the eleventh year in a row, Europe recorded growth in overseas purchases of gingerbread, which increased by 3.6% to X tons in 2022. Total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +68.6% against 2012 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 11%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
In value terms, gingerbread imports rose remarkably to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +60.8% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 16% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Germany (X tons), Slovakia (X tons), France (X tons), Italy (X tons), the UK (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Romania (X tons), Austria (X tons), Belarus (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Denmark (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) was the main importer of gingerbread in Europe, making up 76% of total import. Poland (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Belarus (with a CAGR of +61.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Slovakia ($X), Germany ($X) and France ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 39% of total imports. The UK, Italy, Austria, Belgium, Romania, Denmark, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Belarus lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 39%.
Among the main importing countries, Belarus, with a CAGR of +60.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 2.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 7.2%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
