From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Albania (with a CAGR of +7.5%), while production for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
The average goat hides and skins yield reached X kg per head in 2021, growing by 6.8% against 2020. The yield figure increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the goat hides and skins yield reached the peak level in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In 2021, number of animals slaughtered for goat hides and skins production in Europe dropped to X heads, stabilizing at 2020 figures. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 54% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, goat hides and skins exports dropped to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Spain (X tons), Greece (X tons), Germany (X tons), France (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons), Albania (X tons), Poland (X tons), Portugal (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) represented the major exporter of goat or kid hides and skins in Europe, generating 90% of total export.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Albania (with a CAGR of +39.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X), France ($X) and Spain ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 71% of total exports. These countries were followed by Greece, Portugal, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Albania, Poland and Hungary, which together accounted for a further 18%.
Albania, with a CAGR of +29.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -9.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a deep reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the export price increased by 17%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Portugal (-3.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Europe
In 2021, purchases abroad of goat or kid hides and skins decreased by -36.5% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. In general, imports saw a noticeable slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 30%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, goat hides and skins imports declined to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a mild reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Poland was the major importer of goat or kid hides and skins in Europe, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was near 30% of total imports in 2021. Germany (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 14% share, followed by Belgium (11%), the Czech Republic (10%), Italy (8.2%), Greece (6%), Portugal (5.1%) and France (4.5%).
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to goat hides and skins imports into Poland stood at +4.3%. At the same time, Portugal (+24.1%), the Czech Republic (+17.1%) and Germany (+12.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Portugal emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Europe, with a CAGR of +24.1% from 2012-2021. By contrast, France (-2.3%), Belgium (-5.5%), Italy (-8.3%) and Greece (-11.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Poland, Germany, the Czech Republic and Portugal increased by +16, +11, +8.7 and +4.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, France ($X), Italy ($X) and Germany ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 93% of total imports. These countries were followed by Poland, Portugal, the Czech Republic, Belgium and Greece, which together accounted for a further 4%.
Portugal, with a CAGR of +10.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 37% against the previous year. Import price indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while Greece ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+6.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
