From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of production, amongst the leading producing countries, was attained by Russia (with a CAGR of +10.4%), while production for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In 2022, the average yield of grapes in Europe rose slightly to X tons per ha, surging by 2.2% compared with 2021. The yield figure increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. As a result, the yield reached the peak level of X tons per ha. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the grape yield remained at a lower figure. In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of grapes, when their volume decreased by -12% to X tons. In general, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
In value terms, grape exports reduced sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Italy (X tons), distantly followed by the Netherlands (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Moldova (X tons) represented the key exporters of grapes, together constituting 86% of total exports. Greece (X tons), Germany (X tons) and North Macedonia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

In value terms, the largest grape supplying countries in Europe were Italy ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Spain ($X), with a combined 86% share of total exports. Greece, Germany, Moldova and North Macedonia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 8.2%.
Moldova, with a CAGR of +11.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -9.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 12% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while North Macedonia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Moldova (+4.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, overseas purchases of grapes decreased by -2.2% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 12% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

The following importers - Belarus (X tons), Spain (X tons), Romania (X tons), Belgium (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Austria (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons) - together made up 17% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Belarus (with a CAGR of +16.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest grape importing markets in Europe were Germany ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and the UK ($X), together comprising 50% of total imports. Russia, France, Poland, Spain, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Austria, Belarus, Romania and Ukraine lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 34%.
Belarus, with a CAGR of +15.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, declining by -8.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the import price increased by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+5.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
