Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, non-wheat groats exports stood at $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 14%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
The shipments of the ten major exporters of groats and meal of cereals (excluding wheat), namely France, Spain, Poland, Belgium, Italy, Hungary, Ukraine, Germany, Russia and Serbia, represented more than two-thirds of total export. The following exporters - Portugal (X tons) and Romania (X tons) - each reached a 3.5% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Spain (with a CAGR of +17.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Poland ($X), Italy ($X) and France ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together accounting for 40% of total exports. These countries were followed by Spain, Belgium, Germany, Hungary, Ukraine, Russia, Serbia, Portugal and Romania, which together accounted for a further 45%.
Spain, with a CAGR of +17.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 13% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while Serbia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+3.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, approx. X tons of groats and meal of cereals (excluding wheat) were imported in Europe; approximately mirroring 2020 figures. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 16%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, non-wheat groats imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a pronounced decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 24% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Spain (X tons), distantly followed by the Netherlands (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Romania (X tons), France (X tons), Portugal (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Norway (X tons) represented the main importers of groats and meal of cereals (excluding wheat), together achieving 65% of total imports. Italy (X tons), the UK (X tons), Greece (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Denmark (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Portugal (with a CAGR of +27.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest non-wheat groats importing markets in Europe were Spain ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Belgium ($X), together comprising 33% of total imports. These countries were followed by Germany, France, the UK, Romania, Italy, Portugal, Greece, Norway, Denmark and the Czech Republic, which together accounted for a further 46%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Portugal, with a CAGR of +24.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, surging by 7.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while Norway ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+3.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
