Plaster Market Size in Europe
In 2022, the Europe plaster market increased by 6.7% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Plaster Production in Europe
In value terms, plaster production contracted to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Europe
For the third year in a row, Europe recorded decline in overseas shipments of plaster, which decreased by -6.1% to X tons in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a mild decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 17% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, plaster exports dropped modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 13%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, leveling off in the following year.
Exports by Country
Germany represented the major exporter of plaster in Europe, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was approx. 41% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by France (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Moldova (X tons), together comprising a 35% share of total exports. The following exporters - Poland (X tons), Russia (X tons), Austria (X tons), Latvia (X tons), Hungary (X tons), the UK (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) - together made up 16% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to plaster exports from Germany stood at -4.2%. At the same time, Hungary (+32.6%), the Czech Republic (+21.8%), Russia (+11.7%), Spain (+5.2%), Moldova (+4.7%), the UK (+4.4%) and France (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hungary emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +32.6% from 2012-2022. Poland and Latvia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Austria (-5.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Spain (+5.6 p.p.), France (+4.1 p.p.), Moldova (+2.8 p.p.), Russia (+2.3 p.p.) and Hungary (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Germany saw its share reduced by -14.5% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest plaster supplying countries in Europe were Germany ($X), France ($X) and the UK ($X), together comprising 61% of total exports. Spain, Moldova, Poland, Latvia, Russia, the Czech Republic, Austria and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 26%.
In terms of the main exporting countries, the Czech Republic, with a CAGR of +15.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 5.9% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.1%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+2.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe
In 2022, supplies from abroad of plaster increased by 27% to X tons, rising for the seventh consecutive year after three years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, plaster imports reached $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2022, the UK (X tons), distantly followed by Belgium (X tons), Portugal (X tons) and Germany (X tons) represented the largest importers of plaster, together achieving 63% of total imports. Switzerland (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Russia (X tons), France (X tons), Hungary (X tons), Poland (X tons), Austria (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Romania (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by the UK (with a CAGR of +33.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the UK ($X), Belgium ($X) and Portugal ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 40% share of total imports.
Among the main importing countries, the UK, with a CAGR of +14.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, dropping by -14.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a mild descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 8.9% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
