The total production indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +28.4% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 26%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X, and then contracted in the following year.

Exports in Europe
In 2021, shipments abroad of halogenated derivatives of aromatic hydrocarbons increased by 3.2% to X tons, rising for the seventh consecutive year after two years of decline. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives exports expanded modestly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a perceptible descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 22%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Germany (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) dominates exports structure, together creating 83% of total exports. Poland (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Italy (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 13% share of total exports. Russia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Russia (with a CAGR of +78.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives supplying countries in Europe were Belgium ($X), Germany ($X) and Russia ($X), together comprising 81% of total exports.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Russia, with a CAGR of +86.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 20%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+4.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Aromatic Hydrocarbons Derivatives Imports
Imports in Europe
For the third consecutive year, Europe recorded growth in supplies from abroad of halogenated derivatives of aromatic hydrocarbons, which increased by 5.9% to X tons in 2021. Total imports indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +86.5% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 35% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives imports expanded sharply to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +89.4% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 34%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Belgium (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the largest importers of halogenated derivatives of aromatic hydrocarbons in Europe, together finishing at near 59% of total imports. It was distantly followed by the Netherlands (X tons), Italy (X tons) and France (X tons), together constituting a 26% share of total imports. The following importers - the UK (X tons) and Switzerland (X tons) - each recorded an 8.3% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Switzerland (with a CAGR of +7.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives importing markets in Europe were Germany ($X), Belgium ($X) and Italy ($X), together accounting for 65% of total imports. These countries were followed by the UK, the Netherlands, France and Switzerland, which together accounted for a further 24%.
The UK, with a CAGR of +9.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, approximately equating the previous year. Import price indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives import price decreased by -14.8% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the import price increased by 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
