Chicken Egg Market Size in Europe

The Europe chicken egg market amounted to $X in 2022, growing by 3.1% against the previous year. In general, consumption showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the market value increased by 6.1% against the previous year. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, chicken egg production expanded markedly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the production volume increased by 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

The country with the largest volume of chicken egg production was Russia (X tons), comprising approx. 22% of total volume. Moreover, chicken egg production in Russia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Germany (X tons), threefold. France (X tons) ranked third in terms of total production with an 8.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume in Russia was relatively modest. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: Germany (+2.5% per year) and France (+1.4% per year).

In 2022, shipments abroad of chicken eggs was finally on the rise to reach X tons after three years of decline. Overall, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 8.1%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, chicken egg exports reached $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

The Netherlands represented the key exporting country with an export of about X tons, which recorded 33% of total exports. Poland (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Germany (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and Spain (X tons). All these countries together took near 38% share of total exports. The following exporters - Belarus (X tons), Latvia (X tons), Russia (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Ukraine (X tons), France (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons) and Romania (X tons) - together made up 18% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Belgium (with a CAGR of +17.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Poland ($X) and Germany ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 56% of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Poland, with a CAGR of +13.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 9.3% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.7%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the export price increased by 20% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Europe

After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of chicken eggs increased by 22% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, chicken egg imports surged to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

The Netherlands (X tons) and Germany (X tons) represented roughly 50% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X tons), Russia (X tons) and France (X tons), together comprising a 24% share of total imports. Italy (X tons), the UK (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Switzerland (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

In value terms, the largest chicken egg importing markets in Europe were Germany ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Russia ($X), with a combined 57% share of total imports. Belgium, France, Italy, the UK, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 27%.

Hungary, with a CAGR of +13.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -2.2% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the import price increased by 12%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then shrank slightly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
