Exports by Country
Denmark (X tons), Belarus (X tons) and Norway (X tons) represented roughly 77% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by the Netherlands (X tons) and Germany (X tons), together comprising a 15% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Belarus (with a CAGR of +54.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest herring, salted or in brine supplying countries in Europe were Denmark ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Norway ($X), together accounting for 68% of total exports. Belarus and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 23%.
Belarus, with a CAGR of +42.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -10.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a pronounced reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 8.2%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+0.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Europe
After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of herring, salted or in brine decreased by -0.9% to X tons in 2022. Total imports indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +91.4% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 60%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then dropped modestly in the following year.
In value terms, herring, salted or in brine imports fell to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, Ukraine (X tons), distantly followed by Germany (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Lithuania (X tons) and Russia (X tons) were the main importers of herring, salted or in brine, together mixing up 86% of total imports. The following importers - Belgium (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Austria (X tons) - together made up 6.6% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Ukraine (with a CAGR of +44.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Ukraine ($X), Germany ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 70% of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, Ukraine, with a CAGR of +38.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -5.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a pronounced contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while the Czech Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
