The Netherlands (X units), France (X units), Poland (X units) and Switzerland (X units) held a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by France (with a CAGR of +9.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest horizontal machining centre supplier in Europe, comprising 54% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Italy ($X), with an 8.3% share of total exports. It was followed by Belgium, with a 7.1% share.

In Germany, horizontal machining centre exports plunged by an average annual rate of -2.4% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Italy (-4.1% per year) and Belgium (-0.6% per year).

In 2021, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per unit, growing by 26% against the previous year. Overall, the export price posted a prominent expansion. After two years of decline, overseas purchases of horizontal machining centres for working metal increased by 15% to X units in 2021. Total imports indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -36.2% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 32%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The Netherlands (X units) and Spain (X units) represented roughly 33% of total imports in 2021. Italy (X units) held a 9.8% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Belgium (8.6%), Germany (6.9%), the UK (6.5%) and Russia (5%). The following importers - France (X units), Greece (X units), Slovakia (X units), Austria (X units), Poland (X units) and Portugal (X units) - together made up 16% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Greece (with a CAGR of +51.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Italy ($X), Germany ($X) and Belgium ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 37% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Russia, the Netherlands, France, Austria, the UK, Poland, Spain, Slovakia, Portugal and Greece, which together accounted for a further 42%.

Among the main importing countries, Greece, with a CAGR of +20.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, with an increase of 2.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a slight curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the import price increased by 47% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per unit), while Greece ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
