In value terms, hot-rolled round stainless steel exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

The shipments of the four major exporters of hot-rolled round bars of stainless steel, namely Germany, France, Spain and Italy, represented more than two-thirds of total export. It was distantly followed by Sweden (X tons), constituting a 5.8% share of total exports. Belgium (X tons), the UK (X tons) and Austria (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Italy (with a CAGR of +18.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest hot-rolled round stainless steel supplying countries in Europe were Germany ($X), France ($X) and Spain ($X), with a combined 56% share of total exports. Italy, Sweden, the UK, Austria and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 35%.

Italy, with a CAGR of +16.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 17% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+2.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Europe

After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of hot-rolled round bars of stainless steel increased by 11% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 13%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, hot-rolled round stainless steel imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Germany (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main importers of hot-rolled round bars of stainless steel in 2021, amounting to approx. 26% and 18% of total imports, respectively. It was distantly followed by the Netherlands (X tons), Denmark (X tons) and Belgium (X tons), together constituting a 16% share of total imports. France (X tons), the UK (X tons), Austria (X tons), Russia (X tons), Poland (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Sweden (X tons) and Switzerland (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Denmark (with a CAGR of +4.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Italy ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 49% of total imports. The UK, Denmark, France, Austria, Belgium, Poland, the Czech Republic, Sweden, Russia and Switzerland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 37%.

Denmark, with a CAGR of +3.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+5.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
