In 2022, Germany (X units), distantly followed by Bulgaria (X units), Ireland (X units), Italy (X units), the Netherlands (X units), Poland (X units) and Austria (X units) represented the key exporters of hydraulic cylinders and systems, together mixing up 75% of total exports. Sweden (X units), Finland (X units), Romania (X units), Spain (X units), France (X units) and the UK (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to hydraulic cylinder and system exports from Germany stood at +1.9%. At the same time, Romania (+45.9%), Poland (+12.3%), the Netherlands (+6.9%), Italy (+6.7%), Spain (+6.2%), Austria (+5.2%), Bulgaria (+5.1%), the UK (+4.8%), Ireland (+4.7%) and Finland (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Poland (+3.3 p.p.), Italy (+2.6 p.p.), Romania (+2.4 p.p.), Bulgaria (+2.1 p.p.) and the Netherlands (+1.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Germany and France saw its share reduced by -3.4% and -3.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest hydraulic cylinder and system supplier in Europe, comprising 28% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the UK ($X), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by Bulgaria, with a 7.5% share.

In Germany, hydraulic cylinder and system exports increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the UK (+9.0% per year) and Bulgaria (+10.0% per year).

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per unit), while Ireland (less than $X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bulgaria (+4.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe

In 2022, the amount of hydraulic cylinders and systems imported in Europe expanded to X units, increasing by 2% on the year before. Total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +33.1% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 30%. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In 2022, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per unit, increasing by 4.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the import price increased by 9.1% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per unit), while Finland (less than $X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+10.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
