The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Germany (X tons), distantly followed by Belgium (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) were the key exporters of hydrogen chloride (hydrochloric acid), together making up 79% of total exports. Portugal (X tons), France (X tons), Norway (X tons), Spain (X tons), Slovakia (X tons) and Poland (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

In 2021, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, growing by 4% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 6.3% against the previous year. There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In terms of the main importing countries, Germany, with a CAGR of +11.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 8.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
