In 2021, the Europe non-alloy steel i-sections market was finally on the rise to reach $X after two years of decline. In general, consumption, however, showed a perceptible setback. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Europe
In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas shipments of i-sections of non-alloy steel, when their volume increased by 8.7% to X tons. In general, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, non-alloy steel i-sections exports soared to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Spain was the largest exporting country with an export of about X tons, which finished at 46% of total exports. Germany (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Luxembourg (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Italy (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 39% share of total exports. Russia (X tons) and the UK (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to non-alloy steel i-sections exports from Spain stood at +1.9%. At the same time, the UK (+19.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the UK emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +19.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Luxembourg (-1.2%), Germany (-1.6%), Italy (-2.1%), Russia (-2.3%) and Poland (-6.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Spain (+9.4 p.p.) and the UK (+2.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Poland saw its share reduced by -4.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Spain ($X) remains the largest non-alloy steel i-sections supplier in Europe, comprising 45% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Luxembourg, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Spain amounted to +4.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Germany (-0.2% per year) and Luxembourg (+0.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 58% against the previous year. Export price indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Italy ($X per ton) and Luxembourg ($X per ton), while the UK ($X per ton) and Spain ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+2.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe
In 2021, purchases abroad of i-sections of non-alloy steel was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, non-alloy steel i-sections imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
France (X tons) and the UK (X tons) represented roughly 37% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Germany (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons), together generating a 20% share of total imports. Belgium (X tons), Italy (X tons), Portugal (X tons), Ireland (X tons), Poland (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Hungary (X tons), Denmark (X tons) and Romania (X tons) held a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Ireland (with a CAGR of +12.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, France ($X), the UK ($X) and Germany ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 48% share of total imports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Ireland, Portugal, Poland, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Hungary and Romania, which together accounted for a further 37%.
Ireland, with a CAGR of +14.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, surging by 56% against the previous year. Import price indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
