Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Europe
In 2021, shipments abroad of inactive yeasts and other dead single-cell micro-organisms increased by 18% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Total exports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +51.3% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 29%. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
In value terms, inactive yeast exports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +44.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
The biggest shipments were from France (X tons), Russia (X tons), Germany (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and Poland (X tons), together recording 65% of total export. It was distantly followed by Estonia (X tons), comprising a 5% share of total exports. Italy (X tons), Ukraine (X tons), Switzerland (X tons), Spain (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Lithuania (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Ukraine (with a CAGR of +47.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, France ($X), Belgium ($X) and Germany ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 39% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Estonia, Italy, Russia, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Ukraine and Switzerland, which together accounted for a further 46%.
Ukraine, with a CAGR of +57.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -2.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 15%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while Switzerland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+11.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Inactive Yeast Imports
Imports in Europe
For the tenth year in a row, Europe recorded growth in supplies from abroad of inactive yeasts and other dead single-cell micro-organisms, which increased by 19% to X tons in 2021. Total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +121.4% against 2012 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 20%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
In value terms, inactive yeast imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +90.0% against 2015 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Germany was the largest importing country with an import of around X tons, which accounted for 32% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), France (X tons), Belgium (X tons), the UK (X tons) and Italy (X tons), together mixing up a 37% share of total imports. Poland (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Norway (X tons), Spain (X tons), Lithuania (X tons) and Austria (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to inactive yeast imports into Germany stood at +12.3%. At the same time, Norway (+29.9%), the Czech Republic (+20.3%), Belarus (+18.7%), Lithuania (+10.9%), the UK (+9.9%), Italy (+9.5%), Poland (+8.7%), Belgium (+8.7%), Spain (+7.6%), the Netherlands (+4.7%), France (+2.9%) and Austria (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Norway emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Europe, with a CAGR of +29.9% from 2012-2021. Germany (+7 p.p.), Belarus (+5.9 p.p.), Norway (+2.4 p.p.) and the Czech Republic (+2.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Austria, the Netherlands and France saw its share reduced by -1.6%, -1.8% and -5.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Germany ($X), France ($X) and Belgium ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 34% share of total imports. These countries were followed by the UK, the Netherlands, Italy, Norway, Spain, Austria, the Czech Republic, Belarus, Poland and Lithuania, which together accounted for a further 49%.
Norway, with a CAGR of +16.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, growing by 1.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 8.5%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+10.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
