Industrial Bakery Machinery Market Size in Europe

In 2022, the Europe industrial bakery machinery market was finally on the rise to reach $X after three years of decline. Overall, consumption, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, industrial bakery machinery production declined slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, continues to indicate a mild setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the production volume increased by 8.8%. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Europe

In 2022, approx. X units of industrial bakery machinery were exported in Europe; waning by -8.9% on the year before. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 15%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, industrial bakery machinery exports contracted to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 20%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Italy was the largest exporting country with an export of about X units, which finished at 48% of total exports. France (X units) held a 7.9% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by the Netherlands (7.9%) and Germany (7.3%). Belgium (X units), Austria (X units), Denmark (X units), Spain (X units), the UK (X units), Poland (X units) and Hungary (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Italy experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of industrial bakery machinery. At the same time, Hungary (+4.9%), Poland (+4.6%), Belgium (+4.6%), Spain (+4.1%) and the Netherlands (+2.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hungary emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +4.9% from 2012-2022. Austria, the UK and Denmark experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, France (-2.5%) and Germany (-4.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Italy (+2.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of France (-2.5 p.p.) and Germany (-4.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Italy ($X) remains the largest industrial bakery machinery supplier in Europe, comprising 40% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Netherlands ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Italy was relatively modest. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (+2.1% per year) and Germany (-4.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, with a decrease of -3.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 7.7% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per unit), while Hungary ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Denmark (+4.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe

In 2022, industrial bakery machinery imports in Europe reduced to X units, which is down by -11.6% compared with the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 23% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, industrial bakery machinery imports shrank to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then reduced in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, France (X units), Germany (X units), the UK (X units), Russia (X units), Belgium (X units), the Netherlands (X units), Romania (X units), Spain (X units), Italy (X units) and Poland (X units) was the main importer of industrial bakery machinery in Europe, making up 71% of total import. The following importers - Switzerland (X units), Austria (X units) and Serbia (X units) - together made up 7.6% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Serbia (with a CAGR of +18.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest industrial bakery machinery importing markets in Europe were Germany ($X), Russia ($X) and France ($X), together accounting for 32% of total imports. The UK, Belgium, the Netherlands, Romania, Poland, Switzerland, Spain, Austria, Italy and Serbia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 48%.

Serbia, with a CAGR of +29.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per unit, reducing by -3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 8.4% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per unit), while Italy ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Serbia (+9.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
