These countries were followed by Denmark, the UK, Switzerland and Belgium, which together accounted for a further 19%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Belgium, with a CAGR of +6.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per unit, declining by -7.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the export price increased by 11% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per unit), while Belgium ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Russia was the largest importer of industrial machinery for the manufacture or preparation of confectionery, cocoa or chocolate in Europe, with the volume of imports finishing at X units, which was near 32% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by the UK (X units), Belgium (X units), Germany (X units), the Netherlands (X units), Bulgaria (X units), Italy (X units) and France (X units), together constituting a 40% share of total imports. The following importers - Spain (X units), Switzerland (X units), Belarus (X units), Portugal (X units) and Poland (X units) - together made up 14% of total imports.

Imports into Russia decreased at an average annual rate of -1.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Portugal (+33.2%), Bulgaria (+30.6%), the Netherlands (+26.2%), the UK (+11.9%), Belarus (+7.7%), France (+5.0%), Spain (+2.8%) and Belgium (+1.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Portugal emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Europe, with a CAGR of +33.2% from 2012-2022. Switzerland experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Italy (-2.0%), Poland (-5.4%) and Germany (-6.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The UK (+5.2 p.p.), Bulgaria (+4.8 p.p.), the Netherlands (+4.7 p.p.), Portugal (+2.2 p.p.) and France (+2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Russia and Germany saw its share reduced by -2% and -4.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported industrial machinery for the manufacture or preparation of confectionery, cocoa or chocolate in Europe, comprising 27% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the UK ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 7.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia stood at -5.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the UK (+13.8% per year) and the Netherlands (+24.4% per year).
