The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the production volume increased by 51% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X, and then declined in the following year.

Exports in Europe
In 2022, shipments abroad of industrial machinery for the preparation of meat or poultry increased by 9.3% to X units, rising for the sixth consecutive year after three years of decline. Overall, exports continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, meat-preparation industrial machinery exports declined modestly to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 6.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then contracted slightly in the following year.
Exports by Country
Spain represented the key exporting country with an export of around X units, which recorded 41% of total exports. Germany (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 16% share, followed by the Netherlands (14%) and Belarus (7.9%). Italy (X units), Russia (X units), Denmark (X units), Austria (X units) and Poland (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Spain increased at an average annual rate of +33.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Russia (+37.4%), Poland (+4.8%) and Belarus (+4.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Russia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +37.4% from 2012-2022. Denmark, Germany and Italy experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the Netherlands (-1.0%) and Austria (-2.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Spain (+37 p.p.) and Russia (+3.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Denmark (-1.5 p.p.), Austria (-2.5 p.p.), Italy (-3.3 p.p.), Germany (-12.9 p.p.) and the Netherlands (-14 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest meat-preparation industrial machinery supplying countries in Europe were Germany ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Italy ($X), with a combined 69% share of total exports. Denmark, Poland, Spain, Austria, Belarus and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 17%.
Russia, with a CAGR of +12.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, declining by -9.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a noticeable slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the export price increased by 5.8%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per unit), while Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Denmark (+1.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Meat-Preparation Industrial Machinery Imports
Imports in Europe
In 2022, purchases abroad of industrial machinery for the preparation of meat or poultry increased by 25% to X units, rising for the fourth consecutive year after two years of decline. Total imports indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +100.8% against 2018 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, meat-preparation industrial machinery imports contracted modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 14%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Italy was the largest importer of industrial machinery for the preparation of meat or poultry in Europe, with the volume of imports accounting for X units, which was near 53% of total imports in 2022. The Netherlands (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by the UK (X units), Russia (X units) and Germany (X units). All these countries together took approx. 38% share of total imports. Switzerland (X units) held a relatively small share of total imports.
Italy experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of industrial machinery for the preparation of meat or poultry. At the same time, the UK (+11.4%), Russia (+11.1%), the Netherlands (+7.4%), Germany (+4.3%) and Switzerland (+3.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the UK emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Europe, with a CAGR of +11.4% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of the UK, Russia and the Netherlands increased by +5.5, +4.6 and +4.1 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest meat-preparation industrial machinery importing markets in Europe were Russia ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and the UK ($X), together accounting for 32% of total imports. Italy, Germany and Switzerland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 14%.
Among the main importing countries, Italy, with a CAGR of +6.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, falling by -21.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a noticeable slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the import price increased by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per unit), while Italy ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
