Market Size for Industrial Tall Oil Fatty Acids in Europe
In 2021, the Europe tall oil fatty acids market was finally on the rise to reach $X after two years of decline. Overall, consumption recorded a pronounced slump. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.
Production of Industrial Tall Oil Fatty Acids in Europe
In value terms, tall oil fatty acids production reduced to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, showed a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the production volume increased by 4.6% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2021, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Europe
For the third consecutive year, Europe recorded growth in shipments abroad of industrial tall oil fatty acids, which increased by 14% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 23%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, tall oil fatty acids exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a slight contraction. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Finland was the largest exporter of industrial tall oil fatty acids in Europe, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was approx. 42% of total exports in 2021. Sweden (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 21% share, followed by the Netherlands (18%) and France (10%). Austria (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Finland experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of industrial tall oil fatty acids. At the same time, France (+20.9%), the Netherlands (+8.9%) and Austria (+2.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, France emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +20.9% from 2012-2021. Sweden experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the Netherlands, France and Finland increased by +9.6, +8.3 and +1.6 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest tall oil fatty acids supplying countries in Europe were Finland ($X), Sweden ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), together comprising 81% of total exports. France and Austria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 14%.
France, with a CAGR of +18.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a mild setback. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Austria ($X per ton) and the Netherlands ($X per ton), while Finland ($X per ton) and France ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (-0.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Imports of Industrial Tall Oil Fatty Acids
Imports in Europe
In 2021, supplies from abroad of industrial tall oil fatty acids was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 9.8%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, tall oil fatty acids imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a pronounced reduction. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
The Netherlands (X tons), Germany (X tons), the UK (X tons), Italy (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Russia (X tons), Poland (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Portugal (X tons) represented roughly 81% of total imports in 2021.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +6.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Germany ($X) and the UK ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 39% of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, the Netherlands, with a CAGR of +4.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 22% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Russia ($X per ton) and Poland ($X per ton), while Spain ($X per ton) and the Netherlands ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+3.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
