Exports in Europe
After three years of growth, shipments abroad of insulating board decreased by -14.9% to X cubic meters in 2022. Total exports indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X cubic meters in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, insulating board exports totaled $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +65.7% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 22% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Poland represented the largest exporting country with an export of around X cubic meters, which resulted at 57% of total exports. Germany (X cubic meters) held the second position in the ranking, followed by France (X cubic meters). All these countries together held approx. 26% share of total exports. Estonia (X cubic meters) and the Netherlands (X cubic meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Poland increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, France (+13.7%), the Netherlands (+13.6%) and Germany (+3.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, France emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +13.7% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Estonia (-2.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Poland (+11 p.p.) and France (+5.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Germany and Estonia saw its share reduced by -1.8% and -2.4% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest insulating board supplier in Europe, comprising 57% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by France, with a 7.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Poland totaled +12.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Germany (+1.6% per year) and France (+14.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per cubic meter, jumping by 20% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.6%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Poland ($X per cubic meter) and Germany ($X per cubic meter), while France ($X per cubic meter) and the Netherlands ($X per cubic meter) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+5.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Insulating Board Imports
Imports in Europe
In 2022, purchases abroad of insulating board decreased by -12.8% to X cubic meters for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 27%. The volume of import peaked at X cubic meters in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, insulating board imports reduced to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +54.7% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 34%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped in the following year.
Imports by Country
Germany was the main importer of insulating board in Europe, with the volume of imports finishing at X cubic meters, which was approx. 31% of total imports in 2022. The Netherlands (X cubic meters) held an 11% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Italy (8.4%), France (7.3%), Switzerland (6.6%) and Belgium (5.7%). Austria (X cubic meters), the UK (X cubic meters), Russia (X cubic meters), Denmark (X cubic meters), Slovakia (X cubic meters), the Czech Republic (X cubic meters) and Albania (X cubic meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to insulating board imports into Germany stood at +4.5%. At the same time, the Czech Republic (+16.2%), Belgium (+10.2%), Austria (+7.6%), Russia (+7.4%), Switzerland (+5.7%), the Netherlands (+3.4%), Slovakia (+3.0%), Italy (+2.2%) and Albania (+2.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Czech Republic emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Europe, with a CAGR of +16.2% from 2012-2022. France, the UK and Denmark experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Germany and Belgium increased by +3.6 and +2.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Germany ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported insulating board in Europe, comprising 31% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with an 8.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Germany amounted to +4.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: France (-0.1% per year) and Italy (+3.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Europe stood at $X per cubic meter in 2022, increasing by 4.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 12% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per cubic meter in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per cubic meter), while Belgium ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
