Market Size for Iodine, Fluorine And Bromine in Europe
The Europe iodine, fluorine and bromine market expanded slightly to $X in 2021, picking up by 2.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a mild slump. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the production volume increased by 83% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2021, production growth failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Europe
Iodine, fluorine and bromine exports rose notably to X tons in 2021, with an increase of 5.3% compared with the year before. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a slight reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 98%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, iodine, fluorine and bromine exports totaled $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 28%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Belgium dominates exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near 88% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by the Netherlands (X tons), mixing up a 7.5% share of total exports. The UK (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Belgium decreased at an average annual rate of -2.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the Netherlands (+26.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Netherlands emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +26.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the UK (-13.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the Netherlands (+6.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of the UK (-4.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Belgium ($X) remains the largest iodine, fluorine and bromine supplier in Europe, comprising 78% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Netherlands ($X), with a 15% share of total exports.
In Belgium, iodine, fluorine and bromine exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Netherlands (+23.7% per year) and the UK (-13.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 7.8% against the previous year. Export price indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, iodine, fluorine and bromine export price decreased by -30.5% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 33% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+2.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Imports of Iodine, Fluorine And Bromine
Imports in Europe
In 2021, iodine, fluorine and bromine imports in Europe shrank slightly to X tons, which is down by -3.6% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, imports showed a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 39%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, iodine, fluorine and bromine imports contracted to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 30%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Belgium was the key importing country with an import of about X tons, which resulted at 47% of total imports. France (X tons) held a 17% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by the UK (11%) and Norway (8.3%). The following importers - Italy (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Spain (X tons) - each resulted at a 12% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to iodine, fluorine and bromine imports into Belgium stood at -4.1%. At the same time, Norway (+9.5%) and Spain (+7.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Norway emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Europe, with a CAGR of +9.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Italy (-2.4%), Germany (-3.6%), France (-3.8%) and the UK (-7.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Norway (+5.6 p.p.) and Spain (+2.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Belgium and the UK saw its share reduced by -3.1% and -5.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Belgium ($X), Norway ($X) and France ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 62% share of total imports.
Among the main importing countries, Norway, with a CAGR of +10.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, rising by 2.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed mild growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 24%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Norway ($X per ton), while Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
