In value terms, lift, elevator, stairway and dragline production reduced slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the production volume increased by 16%. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, shipments abroad of lifts, elevators, moving stairways and draglines decreased by -12.3% to X units, falling for the second year in a row after five years of growth. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -20.6% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, lift, elevator, stairway and dragline exports shrank to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

The biggest shipments were from Germany (X units), Spain (X units), Italy (X units), the Netherlands (X units), Slovakia (X units), France (X units), Sweden (X units), Belarus (X units), the UK (X units), Belgium (X units), Austria (X units) and Poland (X units), together finishing at 91% of total export.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Slovakia (with a CAGR of +28.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Italy ($X), Spain ($X) and Germany ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 46% of total exports. The Netherlands, Slovakia, France, Austria, Sweden, the UK, Belarus, Belgium and Poland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 45%.

Slovakia, with a CAGR of +22.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, with an increase of 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a mild decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the export price increased by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per unit), while Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (-0.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Europe

In 2022, purchases abroad of lifts, elevators, moving stairways and draglines decreased by -5.1% to X units for the first time since 2015, thus ending a six-year rising trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 15% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, lift, elevator, stairway and dragline imports reached $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Russia (X units), the UK (X units), Switzerland (X units), the Netherlands (X units), Germany (X units), France (X units) and Norway (X units) represented the major importer of lifts, elevators, moving stairways and draglines in Europe, creating 62% of total import. Poland (X units), Sweden (X units), Italy (X units), Spain (X units), Austria (X units) and Belgium (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Italy (with a CAGR of +13.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per unit, surging by 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a slight curtailment. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
