In 2021, Belgium (X tons), Germany (X tons) and France (X tons) represented the largest exporter of lime in Europe, making up 49% of total export. Spain (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Russia (X tons) and Italy (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 16% share of total exports. Slovakia (X tons), Norway (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Poland (X tons), Bosnia and Herzegovina (X tons), Portugal (X tons) and Croatia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Portugal (with a CAGR of +20.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Belgium ($X), France ($X) and Germany ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 55% share of total exports. Spain, Italy, Russia, Norway, the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Portugal, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 30%.
Among the main exporting countries, Portugal, with a CAGR of +18.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 9.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Croatia (+1.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, approx. X tons of lime were imported in Europe; with an increase of 14% against 2020. Over the period under review, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 22%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, lime imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

It was distantly followed by Sweden (X tons), comprising a 7% share of total imports.
