In 2021, the amount of liquid or compressed air and distilled or conductivity water exported in Europe expanded rapidly to X tons, picking up by 6.5% on the previous year's figure. Overall, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 12%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, liquid air and distilled water exports rose significantly to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +48.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 49%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Germany was the main exporter of liquid or compressed air and distilled or conductivity water in Europe, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was approx. 44% of total exports in 2021. Belgium (X tons) took a 16% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by the Netherlands (12%), Poland (5.5%) and the Czech Republic (5.4%). The following exporters - France (X tons) and Austria (X tons) - together made up 7.3% of total exports.

Exports from Germany increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Poland (+19.7%), the Netherlands (+19.1%) and the Czech Republic (+9.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +19.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Austria (-1.7%), France (-2.8%) and Belgium (-3.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the Netherlands (+8.9 p.p.), Poland (+4.3 p.p.) and the Czech Republic (+2.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of France (-1.7 p.p.) and Belgium (-8.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest liquid air and distilled water supplier in Europe, comprising 34% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Germany stood at -2.2%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (+56.5% per year) and the Netherlands (+12.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 4.6% against the previous year. Export price indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, liquid air and distilled water export price increased by +24.6% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 56%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+30.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe

In 2021, overseas purchases of liquid or compressed air and distilled or conductivity water increased by 23% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 76%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, liquid air and distilled water imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 653%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

Poland was the major importing country with an import of around X tons, which resulted at 42% of total imports. Belgium (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by France (X tons), Austria (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Italy (X tons). All these countries together took near 35% share of total imports. The UK (X tons), Switzerland (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Portugal (X tons) held a little share of total imports.

Poland was also the fastest-growing in terms of the liquid or compressed air and distilled or conductivity water imports, with a CAGR of +47.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the Netherlands (+12.9%), the UK (+10.2%), Italy (+8.8%), Belgium (+8.2%), Switzerland (+7.3%), France (+4.7%) and Austria (+2.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Germany and Portugal experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Spain (-3.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Poland (+39 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Portugal (-2.8 p.p.), France (-3.8 p.p.), Spain (-5.2 p.p.), Austria (-5.9 p.p.) and Germany (-7.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported liquid or compressed air and distilled or conductivity water in Europe, comprising 85% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 3% share of total imports. It was followed by the UK, with a 2.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Poland stood at +83.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Germany (+11.0% per year) and the UK (+13.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, reducing by -2.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 327%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then contracted slightly in the following year.
