In value terms, lithium oxide exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports recorded a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 143%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Russia (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) prevails in exports structure, together creating 79% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Switzerland (X tons), comprising a 9.2% share of total exports. Belgium (X tons), France (X tons) and the UK (X tons) held a little share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +42.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest lithium oxide supplier in Europe, comprising 55% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Netherlands ($X), with a 27% share of total exports. It was followed by Belgium, with a 5.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia amounted to +22.2%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (+37.4% per year) and Belgium (-6.4% per year).

The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 4.4% against the previous year. Export price indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, lithium oxide export price decreased by -31.7% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the export price increased by 43% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, lithium oxide imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 76% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
The Netherlands (X tons) and France (X tons) represented roughly 45% of total imports in 2021. Spain (X tons) took an 11% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by the UK (8.8%), Russia (8.5%), the Czech Republic (6.3%) and Belgium (4.7%).
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by the Czech Republic (with a CAGR of +36.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest lithium oxide importing markets in Europe were the Netherlands ($X), France ($X) and the UK ($X), together comprising 54% of total imports.
The Netherlands, with a CAGR of +38.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
