In 2022, after four years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas shipments of machinery for liquefying air or gases, when their volume increased by 11% to X units. In general, exports, however, showed a perceptible descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 54%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, air or gas liquefier exports expanded significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 45% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Italy (X units) was the main exporter of machinery for liquefying air or gases, achieving 30% of total exports. The Netherlands (X units) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Hungary (X units), Poland (X units), Germany (X units), Russia (X units) and Sweden (X units). All these countries together took near 52% share of total exports. Denmark (X units) took a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +22.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Italy ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Germany ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 71% of total exports. These countries were followed by Hungary, Russia, Denmark, Poland and Sweden, which together accounted for a further 5.7%.

Poland, with a CAGR of +26.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 26%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while Sweden ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+15.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe

Air or gas liquefier imports reduced notably to X units in 2022, which is down by -45.6% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 360%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units, and then shrank sharply in the following year.

In value terms, air or gas liquefier imports contracted notably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 631%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then declined remarkably in the following year.

Imports by Country

Russia dominates imports structure, recording X units, which was near 70% of total imports in 2022. The following importers - the Netherlands (X units), Belgium (X units), Germany (X units), Spain (X units), Italy (X units), the UK (X units), France (X units), Hungary (X units) and Lithuania (X units) - together made up 19% of total imports.

Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the machinery for liquefying air or gases imports, with a CAGR of +32.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, the Netherlands (+16.2%), Lithuania (+14.9%), Spain (+9.6%), France (+7.2%), Germany (+5.2%), Italy (+5.2%), Hungary (+2.9%) and the UK (+2.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Belgium (-12.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Russia (+56 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Germany (-1.8 p.p.), Italy (-1.8 p.p.), Hungary (-2.2 p.p.), the UK (-2.2 p.p.) and Belgium (-22.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported machinery for liquefying air or gases in Europe, comprising 83% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 2.5% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 2.1% share.

In Russia, air or gas liquefier imports increased at an average annual rate of +35.1% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+8.4% per year) and the Netherlands (+3.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, flattening at the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the import price increased by 59% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while Lithuania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
