The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the production volume increased by 21%. Over the period under review, production reached the maximum level at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, shipments abroad of machinery for public works and building was finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, public works machinery exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Germany prevails in exports structure, resulting at X units, which was approx. 59% of total exports in 2021. Italy (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 6.6% share, followed by Russia (5.9%), Belarus (5%) and the Netherlands (4.8%). The following exporters - the UK (X units) and Belgium (X units) - each accounted for a 5.2% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to public works machinery exports from Germany stood at +2.6%. At the same time, Russia (+13.2%), the Netherlands (+7.0%) and Belgium (+6.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Russia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +13.2% from 2012-2021. Belarus experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Italy (-4.6%) and the UK (-6.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Germany (+7.2 p.p.), Russia (+3.8 p.p.) and the Netherlands (+1.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of the UK (-2.5 p.p.) and Italy (-4.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest public works machinery supplier in Europe, comprising 65% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Italy ($X), with a 7.6% share of total exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 5.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Germany stood at +3.6%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Italy (-3.0% per year) and the Netherlands (+7.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 14%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2018 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per unit), while Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Europe
In 2021, public works machinery imports in Europe surged to X units, jumping by 21% against 2020 figures. Total imports indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 39% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Total imports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 25%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, France (X units), distantly followed by Russia (X units), the UK (X units), Italy (X units) and Germany (X units) were the main importers of machinery for public works and building, together achieving 58% of total imports. Norway (X units), the Netherlands (X units), Ukraine (X units), Switzerland (X units), Sweden (X units), Ireland (X units), Belgium (X units) and the Czech Republic (X units) took a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Ireland (with a CAGR of +42.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, France ($X), Russia ($X) and the UK ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 39% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Italy, Germany, Ukraine, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Belgium, the Czech Republic and Ireland, which together accounted for a further 35%.
Among the main importing countries, Ireland, with a CAGR of +30.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, which is down by -2.3% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 14%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2019 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($X per unit), while Norway ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+5.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
