The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 44%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, the largest food manufacture machinery supplying countries in Europe were Italy ($X), Germany ($X) and Denmark ($X), together comprising 53% of total exports. These countries were followed by France, the Netherlands, Spain, the UK, Austria, Belgium, Sweden, Poland and the Czech Republic, which together accounted for a further 34%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Austria, with a CAGR of +21.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, picking up by 4.7% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.8%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 25% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2018 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per unit), while Poland ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+18.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe

In 2021, food manufacture machinery imports in Europe surged to X units, picking up by 30% compared with 2020 figures. Overall, imports, however, saw a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 30% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, food manufacture machinery imports rose remarkably to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the six major importers of machinery for the preparation or manufacture of food or drink, namely the Czech Republic, Russia, the Netherlands, the UK, Spain and Germany, represented more than half of total import. It was distantly followed by Italy (X units), comprising a 4.6% share of total imports. Poland (X units), France (X units), Belgium (X units), Greece (X units), Portugal (X units) and Romania (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the Czech Republic (with a CAGR of +33.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X), the UK ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 34% of total imports. These countries were followed by Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Poland, Greece, Portugal, Belgium, Romania and the Czech Republic, which together accounted for a further 39%.

Greece, with a CAGR of +16.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, declining by -13.9% against the previous year. Import price indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, food manufacture machinery import price increased by +34.6% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the import price increased by 36%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per unit), while the Czech Republic ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
