The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 30%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, paper moulding machine exports shrank to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 45%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped in the following year.
Exports by Country
Germany was the key exporting country with an export of around X units, which amounted to 49% of total exports. The Netherlands (X units) took a 22% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Slovenia (5.6%) and Denmark (5.2%). The following exporters - Italy (X units), Poland (X units) and the Czech Republic (X units) - together made up 8.4% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to paper moulding machine exports from Germany stood at +14.1%. At the same time, Poland (+33.9%), Slovenia (+28.1%), Denmark (+3.3%) and the Netherlands (+3.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +33.9% from 2012-2022. By contrast, the Czech Republic (-4.9%) and Italy (-7.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Germany (+26 p.p.), Slovenia (+4.8 p.p.) and Poland (+2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of the Czech Republic (-3.5 p.p.), the Netherlands (-6.3 p.p.) and Italy (-11.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest paper moulding machine supplier in Europe, comprising 52% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Netherlands ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by Denmark, with a 7.5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Germany totaled +21.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Netherlands (+4.3% per year) and Denmark (+3.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, declining by -15.3% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the export price increased by 39% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2021, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per unit), while the Czech Republic ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovenia (+7.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +103.4% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 47%. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +99.2% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 47%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In 2022, the Netherlands (X units), distantly followed by Poland (X units), France (X units), Italy (X units), the UK (X units) and Germany (X units) were the largest importers of machines for moulding articles in paper pulp, paper or paperboard, together generating 61% of total imports. The following importers - Austria (X units), Spain (X units), North Macedonia (X units), Slovenia (X units), Romania (X units), Belgium (X units) and Russia (X units) - together made up 21% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Slovenia (with a CAGR of +29.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Austria ($X) and Poland ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 38% of total imports. These countries were followed by Italy, the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Russia, Belgium, Romania, Slovenia and North Macedonia, which together accounted for a further 46%.
Italy, with a CAGR of +34.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -4.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the import price increased by 14%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per unit), while North Macedonia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
