Man-Made Filament Yarn Market Size in Europe
In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in the Europe man-made filament yarn market, when its value increased by 28% to $X. In general, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, man-made filament yarn production skyrocketed to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, continues to indicate a mild shrinkage. Over the period under review, production reached the maximum level at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Europe
In 2021, overseas shipments of man-made filament yarn decreased by -4.7% to X tons, falling for the sixth year in a row after two years of growth. In general, exports showed a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, man-made filament yarn exports rose notably to $X in 2021. Overall, exports saw a noticeable decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 15% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
The Czech Republic represented the key exporter of man-made filament yarn in Europe, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was approx. 35% of total exports in 2021. Italy (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with an 11% share, followed by Belgium (8%), Germany (7.8%) and Hungary (6.3%). The Netherlands (X tons), Spain (X tons), France (X tons), Latvia (X tons), Belarus (X tons), Slovakia (X tons), the UK (X tons) and Poland (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from the Czech Republic increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Latvia (+12.5%), Slovakia (+8.6%), the Netherlands (+4.8%) and Spain (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Latvia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +12.5% from 2012-2021. Hungary and the UK experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Poland (-6.3%), Germany (-6.3%), France (-10.0%), Belgium (-10.7%), Italy (-12.5%) and Belarus (-15.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the Czech Republic, Latvia, the Netherlands, Hungary and Spain increased by +20, +2.6, +2.5, +2.4 and +1.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest man-made filament yarn supplying countries in Europe were the Czech Republic ($X), Italy ($X) and Germany ($X), together accounting for 60% of total exports.
The Czech Republic, with a CAGR of +15.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 16% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 22%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Latvia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+10.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Man-Made Filament Yarn Imports
Imports in Europe
In 2021, supplies from abroad of man-made filament yarn increased by 18% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a slight contraction. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, man-made filament yarn imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a slight downturn. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Belgium (X tons), distantly followed by the Netherlands (X tons), Germany (X tons), Denmark (X tons), Italy (X tons), the UK (X tons), Poland (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Romania (X tons) represented the largest importers of man-made filament yarn, together constituting 78% of total imports. The following importers - France (X tons), Spain (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Portugal (X tons) - together made up 11% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to man-made filament yarn imports into Belgium stood at -2.6%. At the same time, the Czech Republic (+11.0%), Poland (+10.2%), Denmark (+9.1%), France (+4.0%), Spain (+2.3%) and Russia (+2.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Czech Republic emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Europe, with a CAGR of +11.0% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Portugal (-1.0%), the UK (-2.3%), Romania (-2.9%), Germany (-4.7%), Italy (-5.0%) and the Netherlands (-8.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Denmark and Poland increased by +4.6 and +3.2 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest man-made filament yarn importing markets in Europe were Belgium ($X), Germany ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), together comprising 36% of total imports. These countries were followed by Denmark, Italy, Romania, the UK, Poland, France, the Czech Republic, Russia, Spain and Portugal, which together accounted for a further 52%.
Poland, with a CAGR of +11.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 3.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 37%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+2.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
