Mango And Mangosteen Market Size in Europe

In 2022, the Europe mango and mangosteen market decreased by -11% to $X for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. The total consumption indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +97.8% against 2012 indices. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

Mango And Mangosteen Production in Europe

In value terms, mango and mangosteen production totaled $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production showed a precipitous curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 3,407,769% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Holy See (X tons) constituted the country with the largest volume of mango and mangosteen production, accounting for 100% of total volume.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume in Holy See was relatively modest.

Mango And Mangosteen Exports

Exports in Europe

In 2022, overseas shipments of mangoes, mangosteens and guavas decreased by -31% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, showed a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 32%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then declined significantly in the following year.

In value terms, mango and mangosteen exports reduced notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 30% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

Exports by Country

The Netherlands represented the major exporter of mangoes, mangosteens and guavas in Europe, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was near 59% of total exports in 2022. Spain (X tons) took a 22% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by France (5.2%). Portugal (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from the Netherlands increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Portugal (+9.9%), Spain (+9.6%) and France (+8.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Portugal emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +9.9% from 2012-2022. Germany experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Belgium (-11.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Spain and the Netherlands increased by +6.4 and +4.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the largest mango and mangosteen supplier in Europe, comprising 57% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Spain ($X), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 6.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in the Netherlands totaled +7.5%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Spain (+10.7% per year) and Germany (+4.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, rising by 1.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 12%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+4.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Mango And Mangosteen Imports

Imports in Europe

In 2022, after ten years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of mangoes, mangosteens and guavas, when their volume decreased by -18% to X tons. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 18%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then contracted significantly in the following year.

In value terms, mango and mangosteen imports fell notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell dramatically in the following year.

Imports by Country

The Netherlands represented the key importing country with an import of around X tons, which amounted to 30% of total imports. Germany (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 12% share, followed by the UK (11%), Spain (9.3%), France (9.2%), Russia (5.9%) and Portugal (5.2%). Belgium (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

Imports into the Netherlands increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Russia (+18.2%), Spain (+10.8%), Portugal (+6.9%), France (+5.8%), Germany (+5.2%) and the UK (+4.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Russia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Europe, with a CAGR of +18.2% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Belgium (-3.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Russia (+3.9 p.p.) and Spain (+3.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the UK, the Netherlands and Belgium saw its share reduced by -1.7%, -2.6% and -4.2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), the UK ($X) and Germany ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 49% share of total imports. France, Spain, Russia, Portugal and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 32%.

Among the main importing countries, Russia, with a CAGR of +19.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, almost unchanged from the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the import price increased by 10%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+2.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
