The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The Netherlands represented the major exporting country with an export of around X units, which accounted for 44% of total exports. It was distantly followed by the UK (X units), France (X units), Italy (X units) and Germany (X units), together comprising a 27% share of total exports. Estonia (X units), Denmark (X units), Austria (X units), Switzerland (X units), the Czech Republic (X units), Sweden (X units), Poland (X units) and Lithuania (X units) took a little share of total exports.

Exports from the Netherlands increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Estonia (+56.2%), Poland (+43.4%), the Czech Republic (+27.9%), Austria (+9.9%), Lithuania (+7.9%) and Denmark (+2.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Estonia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +56.2% from 2012-2021. France and Switzerland experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Sweden (-1.8%), Germany (-5.1%), the UK (-5.6%) and Italy (-8.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the Netherlands (+18 p.p.), Estonia (+3.2 p.p.), the Czech Republic (+2 p.p.), Austria (+1.7 p.p.) and Poland (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Germany (-2.2 p.p.), Italy (-5.3 p.p.) and the UK (-6.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the UK ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and France ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 61% share of total exports. Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Denmark, Estonia, the Czech Republic, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland and Austria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 19%.

Estonia, with a CAGR of +50.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per unit, rising by 9% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.0%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 24%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was France ($X per unit), while Austria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lithuania (+22.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, purchases abroad of marine or river navigation instruments and appliances increased by 8.9% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 13%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest marine GPS navigator importing markets in Europe were the Netherlands ($X), the UK ($X) and Germany ($X), together comprising 42% of total imports. These countries were followed by France, Italy, Spain, Norway, Russia, Poland, Denmark, Finland, Sweden and Estonia, which together accounted for a further 45%.

Among the main importing countries, Estonia, with a CAGR of +30.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
